We keep a carefully selected mix of heritage laying breeds, dual-purpose breeds, and ornamental heritage. Each breed is chosen for temperament, productivity, and suitability to the Queensland climate.
Since our Marans flock is small at this stage, we can only offer half dozens for postage. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
While we are working on our Marans lines, there is a chance that lighter eggs and imperfect breed traits will pop up. We are working hard to produce breed-standard birds with dark eggs over the next generations.
Marans are a hardy, dual-purpose French heritage chicken breed famous for laying exceptionally dark, chocolate-brown eggs. Valued for their calm and friendly temperament, they make excellent backyard additions, reaching a mature weight of 3 to 4 kg for roosters and 2.5 to 3.2 kg for hens. Our Black Copper Marans hens are led by our Blue Copper Marans rooster, Emilio.
Blue Laced Red Wyandottes are a dual purpose breed originating from America. Hardy, with both heat & cold. They boast a calm, friendly temperament with gorgeous lacing to match. Typically lay 180-240 medium cream/tan eggs per year. Mature weight between 2.5kg - 4kg. Our pen has recently lost our Blue Laced Red Wyandotte rooster, Luciano and is currently replaced with a new Blue Laced Red. However alongside our boy is a group of Splash, Blue & Black hens. This creates lovely diverse colours & chances of getting all 3 colours from our flock.
Pekins originated from Asia: they are a relatively hardy breed despite the size. A fantastic breed for young families in urban areas due to their petite size & easy to tame personalities. Millefleur describes their incredible speckled patterns. Typically lay between 100-120 light cream eggs per year. Mature weight under 1kg. Our lovely Pekin pen is run by our sweet Millefleur boy, Dusty.
Cream Legbars originated from the UK. A generally tolerant breed, they don't handle cold as well as they do heat. They are great foragers & enjoy free ranging. They are well-known for their ability to automatically determine the sex of chicks at hatch based off down colour & appearance.
They lay 200-220 eggs per year, a beautiful pale-light blue egg.
Mature weight is 2.3 - 3.2kg.
Our Cream Legbar pen is run by Galliano.
Easter Eggers are a hybrid bird and can feature a genetic makeup consisting of many different breeds! This can create such a wide range of diverse egg colours, bird patterns, combs, leg colours, crests, puffy cheeks & SO much more. If you want a diverse flock - these are for you. The majority of our true Easter and Olive Eggers lay upwards of 200 eggs per year. When the heritage breeds slow down, this cage hardly stops. Egg colours range from tans, heavy bloom pinks/purples, browns, speckles, olives, blues, greys & all the in-betweens. We have some lovely Barnevelder x Araucana and Marans x Araucana hens. Our breeding program includes three roosters: Marcello, a pure Black Copper Marans; Nico, a pure Barnevelder; and Stefano, a Blue Laced Barnevelder x Araucana. Our cage consists of a few 1st generation projects. Our Brahma x Coloured Egger project & our Wyandotte x Coloured Egger project. These projects are yielding wonderful results thus far. Every Coloured Egger Brahma hatched so far has followed their mum's Gold Partridge colouration, decent foot feather coverage, and decent size. Our Wyandotte Coloured Eggers have all grown out with very detailed lacing. These projects still have the chance of laying tans this season.
